What it is
The brain between signal and valve
A valve positioner is the instrument that makes the actuator put the valve exactly where the controller asks. It continuously compares the control signal to the actual stem or shaft position and adjusts actuator pressure until the two match — delivering precise, repeatable throttling that the actuator alone cannot.
The technology has evolved from purely pneumatic, to analog I/P (electronic signal converted to air), to today's microprocessor-based FIELDVUE™ digital valve controllers — which add continuous diagnostics and two-way communication on top of accurate control.
How a valve positioner works
Three generations of control
Pneumatic
A pneumatic input signal modulates supply pressure to the actuator through a nozzle/flapper, positioning the stem or shaft in proportion to the signal. The simplest, air-only design.
Analog I/P
Most modern loops use a 4–20 mA DC signal. An I/P (current-to-pneumatic) converter turns the electronic current into a proportional pneumatic output that feeds the pneumatic positioner.
Digital Valve Controllers
Microprocessor-based FIELDVUE™ instruments accept 4–20 mA / HART / fieldbus, position the valve, and add continuous diagnostics and two-way communication for setup, tuning and predictive maintenance.

Genuine OEM
Genuine Fisher™ positioner spare parts
A positioner only protects control if it's repaired with the right genuine parts. We supply OEM relays, I/P converter modules, gauges, gasket and seal kits, feedback parts and FIELDVUE™ electronic modules so a positioner is restored — and its diagnostics trusted — to the original design.
Tell us the valve, the input signal and the protocol — our team will confirm the right Fisher™ positioner or FIELDVUE™ controller, or genuine parts.
