The devices that turn a signal into precise valve action
Instrumentation is the layer between the control system and the moving valve. A positioner or digital valve controller takes the control signal and drives the actuator to the exact position the loop calls for; an I/P transducer converts a 4–20 mA signal into the pneumatic output the actuator needs.
Around them sit boosters and relays that speed up large actuators, transmitters and switches that report position back to the control room, and standalone controllers for local pressure, level and temperature loops. Modern FIELDVUE™ controllers also add diagnostics that reveal valve health before a failure forces an unplanned shutdown.
